Intl. peace activists chant pro-Palestinian
slogans in Gaza City on Jan. 7, 2010.
Israeli forces injure six people, one seriously, attacking the people who had protested Tel Aviv's declaring great chunks of Gaza's arable land no-go area.
The victims, hit by live Israeli rounds, were among the local residents and activists to gather around the restricted zone in central Gaza Strip on Saturday, the Palestinian Ma'an news agency reported.
The ban keeps the farmers off 20 percent of the arable lands in Gaza. It also intrudes into the strip beyond the areas from which Israel is supposed to have withdrawn in 2005.
"The non-violent rally approached the border area to protest the creation of a buffer zone along the borders between Israel and the Gaza Strip," rally coordinator Mahmoud Az-Ziq was quoted by the agency as saying.
Among the wounded were a 22-year-old youth who was shot in the stomach before requiring emergency medical attention as well as 28-year-old Maltese activist Bianca Zimmit.
