Before Israel became a state in 1948, Jews worldwide were filled with Zionist propaganda that Israel would be a homeland for all Jews, a refuge for persecuted Jews, a democratic country and the fulfillment of biblical prophecy.

I am an Ashkenazi Jew who spent the first 25 years of my life in the United States, the country that has given ALL Jews freedom and the opportunity to prosper — and prosper we Jews did, to the point that one portion of the Jews (the Zionists) have gained a position of political and economic dominance in the U.S.

US drone strikes condemned by rights groups

Published on Oct 21, 2013 | Amnesty International says the United States should be investigated for war crimes over its drone strike programme in Pakistan. The human rights watchdog investigated 45 drone strikes between January 2012 and August this year. It highlights incidents where civilians were killed in North Waziristan, including the death of a 14-year-old boy. Amnesty also documented cases of so-called rescuer attacks, where those who ran to help the victims of a drone strike are killed in a follow-up attack. Al Jazeera's Imtiaz Tyab spoke to one family that was targeted in one such strike.

West’s hypocrisy over chemical weapons

The hysteria over the use of chemical weapons in Syria, wrongly accusing the Syrian government of using them, has inadvertently focussed spotlight on the West’s own use of poison gas and chemical weapons. The West’s record is horrible.

Chemical weapons or any other weapons of mass destruction cause terrible suffering to their victims. Chemical weapons were banned soon after their discovery and use through the Geneva Protocols of 1925. Before the Protocols, the British had already used such weapons in the Second Battle of Gaza in Palestine against Ottoman forces during the First World War (1917) and in Iraq in 1920. Winston Churchill, proclaimed as a “world statesman” and great British leader, had no qualms about using such weapons against “uncivilized tribes” in Iraq. Wrote Churchill in one of his memos about the use of poison gas,

I do not understand this squeamishness about the use of [poison] gas. We have definitely adopted the position at the [Paris] Peace Conference of arguing in favor of the retention of gas as a permanent method of warfare. It is sheer affectation to lacerate man with the poisonous fragment of a bursting shell and to boggle at making his eyes water by means of lachrymatory gas. I am strongly in favour of using poisoned gas against uncivilized tribes…

Nor did the “civilized” West stop using these weapons after the 1925 Geneva Protocols or the Chemical Weapons Treaty that came into force on April 29, 1967, the same year that the US Senate ratified it. Clear evidence is available about Western governments’ use of such weapons despite ratifying the treaty. The campaign of vilification launched against Syria, therefore, reeks of Western hypocrisy. The US leads this campaign yet it is the worst offender in using chemical, biological and nuclear weapons.

Rights group says Syrian rebels killed civilians

Fisk recounts how Lebanese Christian militias who were under the control of the Israeli military murdered over 2000 Palestinians in the camps. Fisk also points to a building in the distance from where he insists the Israeli forces could witness the massacre. The Israeli government's own Kahan Commission found that future Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon was personally responsible for the massacre. This is from a documentary Fisk made about "why so many Muslims have come to hate the West." But we know the real reason is because they hate our freedom, right?

Toxic legacy of US assault on Fallujah 'worse than Hiroshima'

Dramatic increases in infant mortality, cancer and leukaemia in the Iraqi city of Fallujah, which was bombarded by US Marines in 2004, exceed those reported by survivors of the atomic bombs that were dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki in 1945, according to a new study.

Iraqi doctors in Fallujah have complained since 2005 of being overwhelmed by the number of babies with serious birth defects, ranging from a girl born with two heads to paralysis of the lower limbs. They said they were also seeing far more cancers than they did before the battle for Fallujah between US troops and insurgents.

Their claims have been supported by a survey showing a four-fold increase in all cancers and a 12-fold increase in childhood cancer in under-14s. Infant mortality in the city is more than four times higher than in neighbouring Jordan and eight times higher than in Kuwait.

Dr Chris Busby, a visiting professor at the University of Ulster and one of the authors of the survey of 4,800 individuals in Fallujah, said it is difficult to pin down the exact cause of the cancers and birth defects. He added that "to produce an effect like this, some very major mutagenic exposure must have occurred in 2004 when the attacks happened".

Israel starts illegal construction, destroying field of olive trees on private Palestinian land near village of Immatin

Immatin is a village situated in close proximity to the annexation wall and flanked by the illegal settlements of Qedumim, Gilad and Immanu’el. Recently, three brothers from the village went to work on their land. However, when they arrived, they found that construction workers, under instruction from the Israeli authorities, were bulldozing and clearing areas of the land to erect electricity pylons. The brothers had not recieved any verbal or written request to use the land nor had they recieved any order that would confiscate it.

The brothers tried to stop the work, as the land is used for olive trees by the family and they fear the destruction of the trees. However the army were then called by the construction workers who when arriving threatened to beat and then arrest the brothers unless they left. The army said that the building work would be between the olive trees, but it is not known what will happen in the future, nor if it will still be permitted for them to access their own land, once these Israeli power lines are in place. When threatened with arrest the brothers left their land, powerless to assert their property and individual rights because they are Palestinian.

International activists visited the land with one of the brothers when the work was still taking place and it can be seen that the olive trees are at high risk from being destroyed during the construction. This case shows the belief that the Israeli occupation has in their own impunity, when they are able to construct, demolish and confiscate without even issuing papers. Even when demolition, confiscation and stop work orders are given, Palestinians have very little chance in overturning them in the Israel courts. The private land under construction is area C which means it is under full Israeli control, where Israel is obliged to look after the rights and administer for all the inhabitants.
