Doctors in Iraq are recording a shocking rise in the number of cancer victims south of Baghdad. Sufferers in the province of Babil have risen by almost tenfold in just three years. Locals blame depleted uranium from US military equipment used in the 2003 invasion. Many Iraqi doctors say its radiation causes an alarming rise in cancer rates and birth defects among Iraqi children. All over Iraq 300 sites are said to be contaminated by depleted Uranium.

London witnesses anti-Egypt protest.

At least 200 protestors gathered Friday outside the Egyptian Embassy in London after news spread that Gaza peace activists had been beaten by Egyptian police in Cairo. 

The protest was organized by the British Muslim Initiative in association with the Palestinian Solidarity Campaign. 

Case Against Blackwater Guards Dismissed

January 01, 2010 WASHINGTON

- A federal judge dismissed all charges Thursday against five Blackwater Worldwide security guards accused of killing unarmed Iraqi civilians in a crowded Baghdad intersection in 2007.

U.S. District Judge Ricardo Urbina said Justice Department prosecutors improperly built their case on sworn statements that had been given under a promise of immunity. Urbina said the government's explanations were "contradictory, unbelievable and lacking in credibility."

Israeli New Year Present : Israeli forces attack Gaza Strip

Israeli warplanes and tanks have carried out attacks across the Gaza Strip, damaging residential areas and leaving four Palestinians wounded.

The airstrikes which targeted residential areas in northern and central Gaza Strip, caused panic among children in the region, a Press TV correspondent reported on Friday.

Obama's new year present : US drone attack in Pakistan 'kills three'

Hundreds died in drone attacks near the Pakistan-Afghan border in 2009  Missiles fired from a US drone aircraft have killed at least three people in north-west Pakistan, reports say. Pakistani security officials say the pilotless aircraft fired two missiles at a moving car in the tribal region of North Waziristan.  Reports say the attack was about 15km (nine miles) east of Miranshah.  North Waziristan is a stronghold of Taliban militants. The Pakistan army has recently staged an offensive against militants in South Waziristan.

UN slams US over killing of Afghan civilians

The UN special envoy in Afghanistan has said he is concerned about the mounting civilian death toll in the war-ravaged country.

Kai Eide warned against nighttime actions by coalition forces ''given that they often result in lethal outcomes for civilians."
